THE search is on for Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor.
The Manchester United manager dropped a bombshell after the Champions League triumph last week by announcing that he will step down in the next three years.
The 66-year-old Scot said: “I won’t be managing here any more than three years at the very, very most. Without question. I assure you of that.”
It will be an uphill task for the Red Devils to replace the most successful manager in the history of the English game: Fergie has won 22 major trophies during his 22-year reign at Old Trafford.
Who should replace him? So far, a few names have been bandied about.
His No. 2 Carlos Queiroz is the frontrunner for the Man United hotseat if the words of the club’s chief executive David Gill are to be believed.
Gill said: “We have an assistant manager in Carlos Queiroz who will be very much in the frame.
“He’s clearly a key part of our success. If you look at what Liverpool achieved in their very successful years during the 70s and 80s, that was through internal appointments.”
Also in the running are Man United old boys Steve Bruce, Mark Hughes and Roy Keane.
Bruce’s tactical nous was evident during his spell with Birmingham City and now Wigan, while Hughes has established a reputation for himself at Blackburn Rovers.
Not to mention he is a former coach of the Welsh national team.
Not many were convinced of Keane’s managerial ability until he took over at Sunderland, where he guided the Black Cats to promotion two seasons ago and then helped them stave off relegation in the Premiership last season.
The trio aside, there will be no lack of applicants for arguably the hottest managerial job in the world.
Who knows, maybe in three years’ time, we will see a Portuguese at the helm at Old Trafford.
By that, I’m referring to Jose Mourinho, and not Queiroz.

Carlos Queiroz will be my first choice when the day of replacing Sir Alex comes.
It is no easy feat to step into Sir Alex's shoes, not even for the Special One.The new man might get the results but can he earn the respect of the team and keep them in harmony? So why not hire someone who already knows how the club is being run,how the players train and one who already has the respect of everyone. And that someone is Carlso Queiroz. The most important thing is he will continue to let Man U play the style they are best in and attractive to watch.
I know there is the curse of the right-hand man taking over the rein and ended in disaster but someone got to break that jinx someday.I believe Carlos have the ability and credentials to do that, well at least give him some time to prove himself.
If he fails then get someone who have a rich history with the club, like the old boys,Hughes,Bruce or Keane.Or even a surprise return for King Cantona. Please no-no to Jose Mourinho or Capello,I'm sure Man U fans will want to watch exciting football and not efficient boring one.

The best man to replace Sir Alex Ferguson is Marcello Lippi.
Manchester United's fans are glory hunters. All they care is win, win, win. Marcello Lippi is a proven winner as he had won something that is considered to be the best achievement in a managerial football career - the World Cup.
Lippi had won five Serie A titles with Juventus. If that's huge, how about winning the UEFA Champions League in 1996 again with Juventus? With them, he also won the Intercontinental Cup. He is Serie A Coach of the Year three times.
Carlos Quieroz as the replacement? Look what he did to Real Madrid. Steve Bruce? What has he ever won as a manager? Mark Hughes? He just doesn't have it. Roy Keane? He should just stick to rubbish teams like Sunderland. As for Jose Mourinho, his style of football will not appeal to the Manchester United fans who want free-flowing attacking football.
I believe if Manchester United wants to continue winning trophies, Marcello Lippi is the man.

Carlos Queiroz would be the first man for the hotseat for me when Sir Alex Ferguson's reign ends.
Sir Alex Ferguson's era at United boast of the wide array of silverware collected for the past twenty years.
Ferguson is similar to an athletic, gasping for breath finally, when his successor is about to take over. And Carlos Queiroz is his successor, staying by his side when he is discouraged and helping him to sprint the long distance.
While Ferguson is reaching the end, Carlos Queiroz is lugging behind him, ready to be second, always. And you don't see that scene everyday.
Ferguson is now ending his career, the mixture of blood and sweat. And that's the time where Queiroz will follow his style and learn every tiny bit of instruction and like the wind, guide the younger ones to the top.
Let Carlos Queiroz prove his credentials, then.

As a manager of Man Utd, one of the top clubs in the world, one will be taking on a very high profile job and is a potential hot potato seat. Jose Mourinho, after two years at Chelsea and unceremoniously sacked is destined to take over the seat after Sir Alex. The reasons:
M : Manipulator of everything for the good of the club he works for, Man-manager and Master Motivator of players
O : Own man, can stand firmly on his own two feet
U : Urban male who is charismatic, fit the profile of a club like Manu
R : Resilient. Will provide the continuity for this value which is prevalent in Man Utd players
I : Incisive tactically
N : tolerate No Nonsense from players
H : High expectations from everyone around him, players and background people
O : Obssess with success only, nothing matters
It is Jose Mourinho for me!

Carlos Queiroz is my ideal choice for the ManU hot seat when Sir Alex tenure at the club ends.
Of course, there are definite reasons why he is given the nod over others. He has been Sir Alex right-hand man for a long spell already. He is the one that takes charge like training, discpline and most importantly, the style and man-managment skills learnt from Sir Alex. He knows how to let ManU play their usual game that mesmerise fans. Althought his stint at Real Madrid has critics doubting him , It would be an completely different case in Old Trafford. He is well-respected among his players, crucial in securing futures such as Nani and most specially, Ronaldo. If Queiroz stays, he will guide along Ronaldo and probably make sure his career ends at ManU.

Being a Manchester United fan, the football romantic in me would like to see Eric Cantona at the helm. However romanticism and the love of the fans is no substitute for tactical nous and man-management.Eric may make a first class coach but the shear size of the club may overwhelm him and spoil the legend behind his name.Just ask Glenn Hoddle, formerly of Spurs.
Jose Mourinho is out of the running. His brand of "a-mighty-hoof-to-Drogba's-roof" kind of anti-football will leave the Old Trafford crowd, brought up on stylish attacking football, livid and calling for the heads of ther directors. And God! He never shuts up!
Some of Roy Keane's teammates are still there at the club and which may not be the ideal scenario if you want to stamp your authority on your club.Players would have a problem adjusting to calling him "Gaffer" or "Boss" after years of "Roy" or "Keano".You also have to question the wisdom of paying 5million for Kieran Richardson. He may eventually be suitable for the job but as of now, still needs a few more years of Premiership experience yet.
Steve Bruce may have learnt from the experience of getting relegated with Birmingham but still looks like the kind of manager that befits only mid-table also-rans satisfied with safety and the odd lucrative cup-run.
Enter "Sparky" aka Mark Hughes. Turned an international team of donkeys with only one world class player into serious contenders? Check! Wise with money(McCarthy, Pedersen, Santa Cruz, Nelsen, Mokoena, Bentley)? Check! Premiership experience? Check! Trophy-laden career at Old Trafford and a legendary crowd favourite? Check! Tactician who beat United a few times? Check! Need I say more?
Just like how he achieved wonders with Wales, on a shoe-string budget smaller than Sunderland's, Mark Hughes has transformed relegation strugglers Blackburn Rovers into a hardworking, hard to beat, consistent UEFA Cup spot challengers who are a capable of flair football and beating anyone on their day.Imagine what he can do with the riches available to him at United. He would also probably unearth some bargain gems and turn them into world beaters for United just like he did with Morten Gamst Pedersen and David Bentley at Rovers.None of his former teammates will be playing for him and his reputation will guarantee instant respect.

Queiroz was the discoverer of the Portuguese "Golden Generation" in the early 1990s which include Luís Figo and Rui Costa. Queiroz Portuguese connection is well known in particular recuriting the talented Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani.Queiroz work at Manchester United in 2002 attracted the attention of Real Madrid when he replaced the Vicente Del Bosque in the summer 2003. Although Real Madrid was playing some of their best football in recent years, many believe that Queiroz's failure at Madrid was down to the interference from the Real Madrid president. He was linked with managerial roles with Portuguese side Benfica and the United States national team in 2006 but he remained with Manchester United to help them win the Premier League in 2007. Sir Alex Ferguson is starting to push for Queiroz to be his successor in the Old Trafford hot seat and discourage any possible suitors from approaching him. He has no equal in discovery of new talent but his tactical acumen has not been tested. Carlos Queiroz has played a major part in Sir Alex Ferguson success in the last 2seasons as he was active the last 2seasons. Finally, you have to listen to the recommendation of the most successful Premier League manager.

I think Queiroz will be my best choice to be fergie's successor.
What was man united famed for? attacking football. And who does it better than fergie? No one yet. But i assure you, fergie must have already planned of who is the successor after he retire, and that is non other than his right hand man, Queiroz. Queiroz will already have learnt most of how fergie managed man utd, the pressure from media and fans, and would be know how to continue the way of attacking football that they are playing now.
People may think that he failed at real means he isn't the material for the utd job, but i beg to differ. If people could give him say the mosts 5 years at this job, i can assure you that united be as good as ever after fergie retires. The reason i must say for his failure at Real is the lack of time by given by the president.
The other man i feel that can continue to provide attacking football is Rijkaard. But as shown at Barcelona, he is just like a 100m sprinter, able to sprint fast for a while, but will lose out in long distances to Queiroz, which i believe will last the distance.

Jose Mourinho would be my first choice to replace Sir Alex Ferguson without a doubt.
But why Mourinho??
These are my reasons:He brings instant success
:He is a tried and tested manager with an awesome record
:He has the skill to turn a nobody into a somebody like what he has done with F.Lampard and J.Terry.
:He IS the boss so no matter how many superstars there are in ManU,they will still have to obey him just like they obey Sir Alex.
:He REALLY protects his players when times are bad and that what makes players like Drogba loves and respect him.
:He demands 101% dedication just like Sir Alex.
:The word "lose","failure" or any other word that has similar meaning does not exists in his vocabulary.hmm...just like Sir Alex.
So,as you can clearly see,Jose not only has similar qualities as Sir Alex but he also has a unique identity and charisma that lights up the EPL.
Chelsea saw an improvement in its fans base only when mourinho was in charge.
Before him, there was only the Big Three in EPL but now there is the Big Four. With the current ManU team at his disposal combined with his superb ability other team would be cursing their luck even the usually composed Rafa Benitez would be panicking. No one knows what the future holds but anything
and even the arrival of Mourinho in Old Trafford can happen. And don't worry cos there will be more champions league winners medal and trophy coming if Mourinho is appointed.

In my opinion, nobody can ever emulate what Ferguson has done. He will leave behind a dynasty and it would be extremely difficult for the new person to carry on his legacy. I think that the successor should be Mark Hughes of Blackburn. Why? Firstly, the new manager should be British and this rules out foreign managers like Mourinho. That leaves only a small group of people to choose from. I tgink that Hughes should be given a chance after working wonders with Wales and Blackburn. Who knows? Maybe, like Ferguson, he will spend 20 years at Manchester United and firmly establish Manchester United`s status as one of the greatest clubs in the world

I am going to throw up a surprise and be a little biased here and suggest Ruud Gullit to suceed Alex Ferguson as the next Manchester United manager.
Before I present my case of supporting the dutchman, I will like to first say why hot favourite Carlos Queiroz cannot be the next Man Utd manager.
Carlos Queiroz joined Real Madrid before losing the respect of top players at his new club and was fortunately given another chance as assistance. If he couldn't command the respect from Real Madrid players, I would like to think the same for Man Utd players.
Back to Ruud Gullit. He does had claims and ability to manage the Red Devils.
Let's not forget Ruud Gullit is one of the pioneers in exposing foreigners to the English League. When we mention the likes of Gianluca Vialli, Gianfranco Zola, and Franck Lebouef, didn't we all forgot about WHO is one who BROUGHT THEM IN?
Add in the fact that the dutch master's reputation of making his team play 'sexy' football, Man Utd and Gullit are a match made in heaven! Ronaldo, Rooney, Nani and co are simply made to play sexy football!
Some critics will be questioning the ability to defend, but then, isn't Man Utd better known to scoring goals than keeping a clean sheet?

Frank Rijkaard first came to my mind the moment I saw the question.
Frank Rijkaard has managed the Netherlands National football team in 1998 to 2000 a top national team in world football and also coach Barcelona in 2003 to 2008 and leading to a double in year 05/06 which is a great achievement that has been done by Sir Alex Ferguson himself.
Frank Rijkaard main philosophy to guide his team towards playing attacking attractive football to entertain the fans while still achieving the main objective of winning games is liken to Fergie theory in football as well.
Frank Rijkaard also play a 4-3-3 system at Barcelona and lead them to the double in 05/06 which is the formation that Alex Ferguson's Manchester United regularly used in most of the matches for the past 2 successful seasons.
Frank Rijkaard and Alex Ferguson both have similar football theory of maintaining possession, short passing game, applying pressure in opposition half to force the opponent to make silly defensive errors and lightning quick counter-attacking football.
If Frank Rijkaard succeed Alex Ferguson it will be just like a tailor-made manager for Manchester United and Success is imminent.

It's funny how Manchester United fans can be accused of being glory hunters when the accuser himself jumped ship from being a Liverpool fan to hunt for more glory with Chelsea when Roman came with his roubles :P A case of pot calling the kettle black??? :)
Ok I know my choice is a bit of a fantasy since this guy's credentials is just managing his nation's beach football team (and leading them to the euro championship in 2004 and world championship in 2005 too may I add) but I've always liked the fact that the artistry in Eric Cantona would be perfect for the kind of sexy football that United are capable of producing. Besides, he will most definitely be a media darling with his anecdotes and one-liners.
Having been a mainstay in Fergie's team between 1992-1997, he would have also been schooled in the club's tradition and how the great man manages his team. During his playing time, the Fledglings looked up to him as an inspiration and upped their performances on the pitch. I don't see why players under him would not do the same. Besides he too has a winning mentality in him.
It would be a longshot with Roy Keane, Mark Hughes and Carlos Queiroz ahead of him but the romantic in me would love to have him back leading our team and creating a new legacy...

Carlos Queiroz is definitely my choice to replace Fergie, and here are my reasons
C:Has enough CREDENTIALS to prove
his ability.
A:Has A KEEN EYE for players. He has discovered talents like Luis Figo and Rui Costa.
R:Always RELAXED and seldom loses his cool.
L:LOVES the fans.
O:ONLY needs a few more years of premiership experience to be the rightful replacement to Fergie's job
S:His STYLE of football is similar to Fergie's
Q:QUIET and knows how to co-orperate with others.
U:Some people might UNDERESTIMATE his ability but I am sure he will shut them up.
E:Has had EXPERIENCE.He was formerly manager of Real Madrid.
I:INSPIRATIONAL in keeping Ronaldo at the club after his involvement in Wayne Rooney's sending off during the 2006 World Cup.
R:Always READY and well prepared a match or training session.
O:The real Special ONE.He will break the jinx that has plagued assistant managers when they take over their bosses.
Z:ZERO toleance against badly behaving players, much like Sir Alex Ferguson.

Arsenal fan.
That man is David Moyes.
An individual with such firm footing, Ferguson has always been full of praise for the Everton man and there is a little known fact that Ferguson actually had wanted to appoint David Moyes as his No.2 when Brian Kidd left.
If Moyes had said yes, then there truly would not have been a Carlos Queiroz!
Moyes, who considers Ferguson as his mentor, truly is the younger version of the latter, being Scottish as well in this instance cant be just a coincidence.
To lead Everton to Top 5 finishes is by no means an accident, this lad has gathered a bunch of young lads and put them on long contracts to keep them together and he has a wonderful vision in buying players with the limited resources he posseses. I mean who was Cahill, Lescott, Arteta,Gravesen and Jagielka 3-5 years ago?
The lack of resources has truly been the main factor behind Everton losing steam at the final hurdle. Imagine if Moyes was given the resources, he would have made a laughing stock out of Liverpool fans by now.
Moyes posseses the same Scottish ethic as Fergie in keeping his players in check, man management, tactical nous and an amazing ability of turning mediocre players into world beaters. With Moyes at helm we might even forget that Ferguson is no longer around. Unlikely, but the only way forward is for Man Utd to get a new hairdryer.
