Hi all,
FAS is holding a press conference later today to announce details of Nike, which will sponsor the Lions' national jersey from now on.
This is the story we broke on New Year's eve after raising a national campaign from September to October, to get the old Tiger sponsored national jersey updated after five years of stagnation.
1. While it's good news for the Lions, would it entice you to turn up for Singapore's first game in the Asean Football C'ships this Saturday at the National Stadium, if FAS and perhaps Nike, make the effort to produce special fans' T-shirts, and give them out free to fans at the National Stadium, to create a special "Kallang Sea of Red"?
2. Since Star Sports is going to show all the Asean Cup matches, would you turn up at the National Stadium to watch the Lions, or stay at home in front of the telly instead?

1)So NIKE is the real deal afterall. Its a really great news for the Lions. On the special T-shirts for the fans, definately its a bonus.Free tees,Singapore Lions,Kallang Wave and a game of football. What more can a football fan ask for?Thumbs up for this idea.
2)For a couple of matches maybe, but not all.Even though the atmosphere of watching live football is a whole different experience compared to watching it in front of TV.Relaxing on the couch after a tired day and watches football with a nice cold pint can be quite enjoying too.
Go Lions!Win that cup again for the whole nation.
Cheers.
1) I remember they had these "Roar Lions Roar" free T-shirts for fans before the Myanmar semi-final game last time... and I always regretted not getting one while I was there. If there can be a freebie like that again, it'd be fantastic.
2) Maybe some. It depends on the publicity, how the Lions are faring, and whether I've the time. But I don't think I'll be there, unless the Lions make it to the later stages...
1) I am already going to the watch the match with my friend before I even know about this. It will surely attract even more supporters with the free T-shirts. Yup and the Kallang Wave is a good idea to spur our Young Lions to another victory.
2) I have no cable so Kallang will be it.
1)I guess being Singaporeans,we all can't resist a freebie, right? It would be a good idea if that happens. It will somewhat show Nike's strong support of getting behind the Lions. Plus, seeing everyone uniform in Red, makes for a more intimidating atmosphere.
2)Schedule permitting,I would try to make it for all the matches held here. The atmosphere of a live game is second to none even it means sacrificing the comforts of the couch.
No.Unless I'm given free admission tickets, free t-shirts, free food and lodging in Manchester, free return air tickets to Manchester and free VIP Box Seatings at Old Trafford.
Definitely won't turn provided my demands are met at above mentioned.I may watch at Star Sports provided have nothing else better to do or no interesting programmes shown on cable.

1. Yea this will make some fence sitters stand up!!
2. Maybe the first match on Star Sports and see if the Lions got teeth! And if Singapore go to semi-final, will go to Stadium
1)No matter whether theres a deal with Nike i would definetly be there to give the Lions support. Its great news to know that the Lions has finally tie up a deal with a major shirt sponsor and it doesn't come bigger than Nike (no offence to Tiger Beer though). It would be great if there are free t-shirts similar to the "Roar Lions Roar" one as what ladylala mentioned given out after all Singaporeans love thier freebies.Creating a red kallang wave would be an additional boost for the Lions to perform.
2) I had already promised myself to go watch the Lions in action after missing the last Tiger Cup final. Moreover you would not be able to feel the atmosphere, the tense moments, the goals, the celebration or tears back in your comfortable couch. So I urge everyone to go down and support the Lions, its after all our own team. If we are not going to support them then who will?
Cheers~
1. Yes! If there were freebies, i guess many S'pore fans like myself will definitely turn up! But of course, S'pore must not disappoint for fear of lower attendances in later matches. I extremely like the idea of a major apparel sponsor like Nike. Its high time for a change for the better!
2. Well, it all depends on the timing of the matches and how the Lions fare in the first match. For me, the first match is crucial to see if the Lions are worth supporting. Defeats i can take but i can't stand shambolic football with lacklustre performances.
Cheers,
kel
Well, there has already been some controversy over the sponsors' preference of blue over the traditional red our Lions are kitted in. But let us just hope this will be the beginning of an era for Singapore football.
I'll definitely be looking to go down to support the national team if possible. Perhaps a few midweek matches will be nice.
Free shirts designed by the people. Why not? It will be a one off gimmick that might entice me to go and support the Lions. Ultimately, is the quality of play that will attract the support. Attractive plays couple with good results will help to achieve that desired goal.
Watching live at the stadium vs the option of watching it 'live' on TV. That's a tough choice. It depends whether on that day whether there are any exciting EPL matches, if there are, I'm might give the Lions a miss. But however, if I can get a bunch of buddies to go down together to watch, I will go down to give the Lions my support.
It's a long time coming, 13 years in fact, without a major sports brand willing to sponsor a regional champion and progressive nation like us. Though my preference is Adidas, having Nike on board is already good enough and certainly worth credence than say FBT or even Tiger!!!
I doubt the t-shirts will be free. This is Singapore for heaven's sake!!! Nothing is free here... Since the home jersey is blue (is this the American brand's quirky take on football???), are we gonna see a sea of blue instead of red???
I'll stay home not cos of disloyalty, but I have a baby to look after...
1) Free T-shirts are a draw for any Singaporean, knowing our "kiasu" and greedy/want-something-for-free nature. As well, newly designed T-shirts by Nike will appeal to our curiosity and so it will drag me to see the Lions in action, just to take a look at these.
2) Watching a game live at the stadium is completely different to watching it on TV. At home, it's a quiet, relaxing atmosphere that's good for family bonding or dozing-off, but when you reach the stadium, the crowd and atmosphere will be completely electrifying. You would feel part of the passion and atmosphere. However, despite this, I probably won't watch every match at the stadium - maybe only the later stages, such as the semi-finals or final. The rest, I will most probably catch on TV, so that I can doze-off on the sofa during the break and during the boring, goalless bits.
1. haha the Nike (+ Lions) shirt sounds attractive. Waiting to see the design first..
2. Stay at home to watch instead. I mean in the comfort of your own home, you can have a up-close of the playing & all that. Of course, the atmosphere would be different in the stadium with the other fans. Hence, if our Lions reached the finals, I might go.
1. I WILL watch the first match.
2. I may not able to watch some matches because I'm not free but I definitely won't watch Singapore Vs Indonesia group match or final because.....
