Hi all,
So who thinks that with 14 games left in the EPL season, Chelsea will be overtaken by either Liverpool or Arsenal, and slip to third, or even fourth?
If so, why? If not, why?

yay! i am the first this time!
For me, much as i hope, i do not expect Chelsea to slip behind the likes of Arsenal and not even Liverpool. I expect them to remain second come the end of the season.
1. I think the gap at 5 points is big enough.
2. They have dropped enough points lately to warrant a fightback. No good team remains in a slump for that long. I am sure Mourinho will have something in store to prevent a further slump. And as we all know, Chelsea may not play the most attractive of football but they are a very effective team.
3. Terry's impending return. Along with the already returned Cech, the defence will be strengthened. Even with a good central defender like Carvalho could be enough for the lesser sides if they eliminate the silly errors.
4. Liverpool and especially Arsenal will definitely drop points against the lesser sides. They tend to disappoint when facing teams where they are expected to win.
5. Mourinho and his men will not give up their crown so easily. I trust that the Shevchenko saga will not cause them to break apart though it has threatened to do so in recent weeks. Abramovich may loosen his purse strings to buy the central defender that Mourinho craves for. Of course, he could need time to settle in but i guess Mourinho will not use it as a stop-gap measure and the defender will probably be someone pretty experienced in the EPL.
6. Liverpool's and Arsenal's resurgence has come too late. They are now paying the price for their indifferent start at the start of the season.
Yes, as a Man U fan, I fear the Blues more than the other 2 clubs. I believe the real challenge to Man Utd will come from them instead of Liverpool or Arsenal. Both Chelsea and Man U may have lost on grandslam wkend, but they were both playing away games and home advantage (ie the 12th man) can play an important role in such matches so we hsould not read too much into this as a catastrophe.
Cheers,
kel
Arsenal and Liverpool’s weekend victories were fantastic but I do not see Chelsea finishing behind both of them. While the Gunners and the Reds usually raise their game against the big teams, they always seem to infuriate their supporters by slipping up against the lesser likes.
Rafa has shown in the past that he likes to tinker when Liverpool play the smaller teams while Arsenal does not enjoy being ruffled by teams who are physical. The players seem to lack the motivation to raise their game against the smaller clubs. On the contrary, the smaller teams are always determined to put one over these EPL giants.
While Chelsea’s defensive problems are well-documented, Chelsea still has enough about them to overpower the lesser teams. Their ability to grind out results is legendary and the return of the steady Petr Cech will give confidence to the backline. A fit Carvalho and Makalele is still a formidable shield even without the talismanic Terry.
However, the resumption of the Champions League could provide Liverpool and Arsenal with a distraction from overtaking Chelsea. With Arsenal and Liverpool bent on claiming Europe’s biggest prize, that could be enough for Chelsea to consolidate 2nd place.
If Mourinho believes that the 6 points gap between Chelsea and Man Utd is within reach then Liverpool and Arsenal have every right to believe they can close up the gap between them and Chelsea.
At the moment Chelsea is clearly affected by the absences of their centerbacks and the internal affairs going on in the club. While Liverpool and Arsenal are performing excellently in the league at the same time, the gap could be close within weeks.Of course Chelsea wasn't champions for last 2 season for nothing, with Terry coming back I believe he will steady the Russian fueled vessel once again.
Like what Kelvin has said, out of the 3 teams of Chelsea,Liverpool and Arsenal,Chelsea remains the main threat to Man Utd because of their consistency they have shown. No disrespect to Liverpool and Arsenal, sure they can beat any team on their day but their consistency level are not of the standard as the Blues.
In a dynamic league like EPL and after the huge weekend results,it has definately make the league more interesting now.So there is every chance that Chelsea will be wrestle down by the Gunners or the Reds,or even both.Just like Chelsea's shirt sponsor Adidas' motto - Impossible Is Nothing.Nothing is certain just yet.
Cheers
After the weekend victories, voices are coming out of the Liverpool camp and Arsenal camp that there is still hope for the title. Who are they trying to kid? But credits goes to both of them for crafting out the wins!
Chelsea has not been in the best of form recently and yet they managed to string a 12 game unbeaten run before the loss at Liverpool. Chelsea is limping at the moment and trying their best to match Man U's consistency. It's already a miracle that they are still in the running for four fronts.
Hope never wavers. There are still 42 points for Chelsea fans like me to hope and pray for a miracle. Of course, hopefully the domestic and european cup competitions don't take their toil on the Blues and burn them out.
Just like how Chelsea is trying to chase down Man U, Liverpool or Arsenal should show more consistency and draw level first before talking about overtaking. Catch the limping defending if you can!
Chelsea still has a chance at winning the Premiership but they need to buck up fast. Their main problem is they don't have their inspirational captain John Terry.
Against Liverpool, the absence of any central defender (Carvalho down with virus) was the main reason they lost.
Chelsea must have the pairing of Terry-Carvalho back. I will still support them if they finish behind those two Reds club provided Carvalho, Robben, Joe Cole, Lampard, Makelele or an excellent new signing I like joins Chelsea.
Don't write Chelsea off. It's still only six points. Three losses by Manchester United and three wins by Chelsea will change everything.
When you see the recent form of the top 4 teams, Liverpool will be top based on the past 6-7 league results (though Arsenal has impressed me the most recently), and no prizes for guessing who’s had the worst run.
Until last weekend, I've never realised what a pathetic state Chelsea’s defence was in. And I think it will stay that way until Terry returns. But having said that, I'm also aware that Terry will be back very soon, and in any case, Chelsea still have relatively easier fixtures in the next 2 to 3 weeks.
I kind of agree with Kelvin's point about Liverpool and Arsenal dropping points against the lesser sides. But then again, at least for Liverpool, they’re on a pretty good run, and their form is pretty much stable at this stage (in the LEAGUE at least!). Like last season, Liverpool started waking up around the December period.
But it's okay with me that most people are still looking at the gap between 1st and 2nd even though the points’ difference between 2nd and 3rd is actually narrower... After all, I would want my team to remain down-to-earth, and not start proclaiming this and that before it happens…
Though most would agree it seems highly unlikely Chelsea would slip below Arsenal and Liverpool, the title race is certainly wide open now. In football, anything is possible.
Though United and Chelsea have shown the greater consistency, both teams still have tricky fixtures up ahead, culminating with that potential title decider at the Bridge. The Reds and Gunners are starting to come good and they may turn the tables on the top 2.
If Liverpool and Arsenal are able to string a run together and the top 2 somehow stumble, the title race will be blown wide open. With Champions League football in the mix come Feb, we may yet see a sting in the tale.
Certainly, it makes for a much more exciting title race than previous years. All the drama, the tension and the excitement, don't we just love football!? :j
Soccer is the game that has the most upsets among all other sports. The title race will be still on until the last match.
Many years ago, I saw Inter Milan lose the Serie A Champion title to AC Milan because they lost the last match in the league. AC Milan won and overtook Inter by 2 points. How's that for an upset?
Chelsea's problem is more than missing John Terry. One player shouldn't have such an enormous impact on the team. If it does, the the team was already in trouble long ago.
As a Liverpool fan, I always try to stay as neutral as possible when analyzing the game and league. Having seen how Chelsea slip up over the past 2 months, will definitely shows glimpse of hope that 2nd place is still up for grab. If you have seen my earlier comments and prediction, I commented if Liverpool wins, it will be easier for Liverpool to catch Chelsea, then Chelsea catching Man U.
I have to disagree with some of them that Liverpool and Arsenal will loss to some of the less teams. Yes, both of them suffer early season slumps but once they are up and running, they are capable of long runs of good results. Liverpool second half of last season was perhaps the best of the top 3 team comparing to Man U and Chelsea. They had 2 runs of 10+ games undefeated and victories. Don’t forget that a Henry inspired side 2 season ago had a whole season undefeated and you will not want to bet against the young reconstructed side to put up similar results (barred a false dawn).
Chelsea resilient is showing sign of cracks and surely, the fans are fearing for the worst. Always Remember, - Consistency is build up over a period of time but will falter over a period of time too. Don’t bet on consistency, isn’t the Arsenal, Man U, Liverpool has the “consistency” in the past but in the end still falter out?
Could this be a time where Liverpool and Arsenal start to find their feet and Chelsea losing theirs? It doesn’t need 2 defeats for Chelsea, just 2 more draws and they will be slipping to 4th (if Pool and Arsenal wins).

chelsea can win the premiership title.. man utd's defence is getting weaker n weaker.. although chelsea's defence is weaker than united's current defence.. but when JT comes back, we will see the chelsea of the past 2 seasons..
liverpool n arsenal have put a good run of results together n r currently the form teams.. but liverpool have more injuries compared to arsenal so i think pool will slip behind arsenal..

Chelsea will slip further in EPL position.
Clown Jose Mourinho, choses to be New Sith Lord Of Manchester United, will encourage more anarchy and Chelsea game losses.
His fellow Portuguese players, one have 'High Fever' ended unavailable against Liverpool match while the other let Reds score first goal and contiune dismal performance, show Russian Tzar who is the manager.
Ballack and Drogba with Blue Brothers Act, in 67th min against Liverpool, is another indication the support given to The Special One.
There will be more Blue Brothers Act, dismal performances result in elimination from Champions League, lose almost every remaining 14 EPL games.
Chelsea's losses in EPL, likely 5th place, will be perfect gift to Emperor Alex Ferguson Of Empire Manchester United by his New Sith Lord Protege - Darth Jose Mourinho.
It is Revenge Of The Sith that Chelsea slips further due to King Roman Abramovich Vs Clown Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea resilient is showing sign of cracks..
I think they are cracking up down left right and centre. It's beyond repairs and I guess fans from the other big 3 can rejoice and celebrate and leave Chelsea alone.. hehe. Best if you guys can ignore them and let them mend the cracks one by one.
I think rather than talking about fighting on four fronts, it should be one match at a time for Chelsea and to squeeze out a decent team to play against opposition. I shall not point to injuries and suspensions as excuses but will acknowledge that Liverpool carried out their game plan to perfection for the first 18 minutes. Hopefully we won't be facing Crouch and Kuyt again until Terry and Cech recovers fully. Haha.
Sorry for the out of topic comment. =)
Chelsea is imploding and its not helping team confidence and morale. Honestly, most of the players did not show up last weekend and they really let Jose and especially, the supporters down.
Though Jose commented some of his players are mentally weak but as the manager, isn't it his job to put that right? His refusal to comment on his future and his spat with the board are taking its toll on the players so there are massive problems at Chelsea right now.
While we applaud Liverpool's superb performance, some of Chelsea's so called "Untouchables" have to stand up and be counted. Chelsea is still in the running at 4 fronts and with the players that they have at the moment, they should be capable of carrying the load left by injured players.
Chelsea is still in control of their own destiny and unless they buck up,the probability of them slipping up is a huge possibility.
Hadi, you are right. Some of the players literally did not show up, forced by injuries or suspensions. Even those that turned up, played as if they weren't there. The Chelsea players were simply woeful, hopefully against Wycombe a different Chelsea side will turn out - one that shows more desire to win! The bottom-line is that Chelsea need not play attractive style, they just need to get back to winning ways and i'll be satisfied. Their successes in the last 2 seasons was never based on attractive attacking play but just a honest pragmatic approach.
Chester Low, you sell comics. I love buying Marvel's X-Men at Cheers. Do you sell X-Men for less than $4.50. If yes, may I know you comic book shop address.
Singapore drew with Malaysia 1-1. We have an away goal! Most probably I'll be at the stadium this Saturday.
Chelsea whooped Wycombe Wanderers 4-0 and will be in the Final of the League Cup meeting Arsenal or Spurs!
It's been a good month for me. Old friends coming back...
Why is it when I post a comment here, it takes a long time for another person to post. I'm a good person behaviour-wise if you have talked to me personally.
This Tuesday...
West Ham Vs Liverpool
On next Wednesday...
Chelsea Vs Blackburn
Man U Vs Watford
What happened to Tan Tu Jin. I heard a really bad story happened to him. Is it real. I saw that guy on October for picking up my prize. He seemed a nice teenager.
well... q-s, sadly, away goals don't count in the Asean Football Championship... It's a bit stupid I know, in that case, why play two legs?! I had this suspicion as I was watching the match yesterday night, because I remember 2 years ago, I was confused by some "strange rules" in the tournament, and then the commentator confirmed that away goals do not apply in this competition...
But when it comes to strange rulings, the red card to Aide has to be the strangest, and most maddening. What the hell was that all about?! The commentator wasn't sure, and after reading newspaper reports today, I still have no idea. Now we're going to have to play the second leg without our "Terry"....
- As for Tedrid and Tommy (Tu Jin), I guess they're just too busy with their schoolwork...
Yes, it was a horrible showing at Anfield. Mourinho & Shevchenko clearly ignoring each other. Mourinho fed up with the players he has & those he cannot have.
Suddenly, it seems that even the second spot is not secure for Chelsea.
However with 14 games left, Chelsea will not be overtaken. Unless they lose all their matches, which is not possible. Their current woes have been for quite a while. Yet they are still second in the EPL and running in the other 3 cups. Whenever Chelsea draws or concede goals, they are seen to be slipping. I think what’s more alarming is that in spite of all that happened, Man U is only 6 points ahead of Chelsea. Liverpool, Arsenal & even Man U have not been able to capitalize on their situation. Other teams still can’t beat them. So what makes them able to do so now?
With Terry set to return soon & the possibility of getting new players in the transfer window, Chelsea can only go up after being in the pit (in terms of performance and results).
Malaysia 1 Old Lions 1.
Aide Iskander got red-carded via 2 yellows.Isn't it a Conspiracy Theory to oust Old Lion Kings from AFC Throne, especially how he got 2nd yellow.
QS.I don't sell Marvel X-Men.$4.50 per copy unless you are pally with comics shop owner.Check Orchard MRT outlet, Lucky Plaza and Bugis Junction.Their prices are competitive compare to Cheers.Best of all, check Katong Shopping Centre for rare editions. The New Paper have weekly page on Western Comics and you can find location selling Marvel comics.

Bishonen (Pretty Young Guys) is guy type comics like Gundam series.Definitely have Pretty Young Guys to capture Young Babes heart
Bishoju is girl type comics like Hana Yori Dango in Japanese means Boys Prettier than Flowers aka Meteor Gardens. It must have Pretty Young Guys like Flowers Four aka F4 to win Young Babes heart.
Anyway to all faithful Old Lion fans.
I've written it down in Death Note for outcome in 2nd Leg between Old Lions Vs Malaysian Tigers. That is 3-2 win in favour of Old Lions.
For your information, Death Note is Bishonen.
From: Chester Low
Totally spot on vette. If Chelsea was to have a fully fit squad to choose from, I think the gap will not be at 6points only. 14 more games. Anything can happen. Chelsea can reclaim the top spot or they might even drop to 5th (though the possibility of that happening is 0.0001%). Whatever the outcome, it is no longer a one horse race of the past 2 seasons. 4 teams (I exaggerated that abit) are still in the running mathematically, though in reality it's only.. =P
Mourinho & Shevchenko was picture shaking hands and discussing tactic yesterday at Stamford Bridge. The morale of the story - don't read too much into pictures.
The plus point is Cech completed his second competitive match. He does look rusty, but with him at helm at the back, Chelsea looked more solid and dealt with most aerial threats comfortably. Imagine Terry coming back in 1-2 weeks time! =)
Also Shevchenko scored yesterday. Increase his goal haul by 33.3% yesterday. Hopefully he can continue this good form and fire in more goals, only then we can talk about the league title.
I just saw ESPN Asia Sportcenter. JOHN TERRY does NOT want to stay if Jose Mourinho leaves. All I can say about this is...DAMN!
I want Saturday to be nice weather as Singapore MUST beat Malaysia to get to the Final.
Yes. Chelsea will definitely improve by the next league match. Goals give teams confidence. Be it any team that they play, a 4-0 win will definitely boost the morale and the confidence of the Chelsea players. After last wkend's poor defensive display against Liverpool, a clean sheet would have done wonders. Yes, it may have been against Wycombe. But a clean sheet is still a clean sheet. And for all of its woes lately, Chelsea is still in contention for FOUR trophies. I guess it has been because of the high standards they have set in recent seasons that everyone expects them to win every game and its a failure if they fail to do so.
Hence, as i mentioned above, I do not expect them to slip further than below 2nd.
cheers,
kel
i will not want to read too much into the victory against Wycombe but if Chelsea can string a run of victories against Forest in the FA cup, Blackburn, Charlton, Middlesbrough, Man City and Portsmouth in the League and against Porto in the ECL, then perhaps the Chelsea machine is up and running again. Of course, Shevchenko must also start to contribute more in terms of goals.
I won't want to be like Arsene Wenger or Benitez talking about the title when they are at least 10 pts away. I shall only talk about the title race only when Chelsea is at least level on points with Man U. No point in talking big and making empty promises. Let the results on the pitch be a true reflection of the harmony and the potential of the team!
chelsea second come may?
probable...
but...
BUT!!!!
liverpool lurking just 5 points behind, aint doing so ad either...
arsenal?
just a further point behind onli!!!
so who says chelsea will guarantee second spot?
i say,
chelsea will draw tons of games from here onwards,
with arsenal going on another similar winning run to 2004
and liverpool going their guts out and securing second place with arsenal third, while chelsea languish in fourth...
and the champions to b man utd,
winning and drawing but never losing, just 2 or 3 points ahead of liverpool, winning the epl!
GIVE IT A HARD THOUGHT MOURINHO!!!
Although I would very much want them to, I don’t think Chelsea will slip to beyond 2nd placing. No doubt they have been dropping points in the recent weeks, but Liverpool and Arsenal are dropping points too, especially against weaker opponents. Take Arsenal’s recent defeat to Sheffield United, for example. Who would have expected them to lose? Liverpool, despite their recent wins in the EPL, has also been blowing hot and cold. Such inconsistent form would thus prevent both the Gunners and the Reds from overtaking the Blues to 2nd place.
Both Liverpool and Arsenal may also be more focused on winning other trophies, like the Champions League or domestic cups, possibly compared to the EPL title, as it now appears beyond both of them. As a result, this may affect their performance towards the end of the season, as they may prefer securing a spot in the Top 4, than wrestling 2nd spot from Chelsea.
Therefore, I think that, come the end of the season, Man Utd will be champions, with Chelsea as runners-up, because the 6-point gap may prove too much for them to overcome. The 3rd and 4th positions will certainly be occupied by Liverpool and Arsenal.
Although it would be difficult for Chelsea retaining the premiership title. I can't see them losing more points.
By the time Arsenal and Liverpool make their charge for the coveted second place... Chelsea would be in full strangth again.
All those squabbles always come out when the team is losing..but once Chelsea are back on the winning side again it will silence all the talks.
The media has always a way of blowing all news out of proportion but i don't see that will totally brak the Chelsea season.
They are still in contention with the major titles so its still farfetched to say that Chelsea had already lost it.
I hate to say this, but Chelsea fans are too disillusioned. Guarantee 2nd spot?? Spot-on, you can never be first then since you are GUARANTEED the 2nd spot.
In football, there are no guarantees even for Man U. I think that Vette is wrong to say the 3 teams never capitalize on the plague of Chelsea. If I am not wrong, Chelsea is just 2 points behind Man U and Liverpool and Arsenal and 11-12 points further behind not so long ago; but what is it now?
Dun forget the Chelsea will still have face Man U and visit Arsenal and that could easily be threatening 5-6 points off them. The challenge is there, but they will have a fight it through. A few more lackluster performances and they might just need to pray very hard. They need their inspiration captain back and - quick. On a positive note, the calendar has turn kinder for them for the next few weeks and they should be able to cope without Terry. The challenge will come in April-May period where they will be stretch to the limit if they are still in all 4 competitions and have tougher league games. Liverpool next few fixture could be a little tricky and tough but will have a relatively easier of the season run-in. If they go through the next 5 league games unscathed, their rotation policy should paid off its dividend by season end. Mark my words.

To all Chelsea fans including me...
Let's say...LET'S SAY...
Chelsea finish 3rd or 4th in the Premiership BUT...
They win a unique treble of Carling Cup, FA Cup and Champions League. What you guys think about that. I'm COOL with it.
After dinner and resting on sofa.
Su Ying:'How's desert?'
I, sitting exactly same posture like L wearing white T-shirt with messy hair:'Finger licking good.'
Su Ying:'Let me read your Death Note.'
Left clean hand pass her Death Note while Right hand dip into Durian Pudding, I:'You can read it."
Su Ying shocked:'Oh no.I'm sure Chelsea fans wouldn't like it.'
I:'Oh yes.Manchester United and Tottenham Fans loved it.'
Su Ying:'Certainly they love it.Chelsea lose in Carling Cup Final to Tottenham Hotspur, being eliminated from Champions League whose eventual winners are Manchester United who eventually win FA Cup and crowned 2006-07 EPL Champions.'
I:'Carry on reading.'
Su Ying:'Jose Mourinho joins Manchester United together with John Terry and Frank Lampard at the end of 2006-07 EPL season after leading Chelsea into 5th position.'
I:'Regarding about Old Lions?'
Su Ying:'You wrote down that Old Lions win AFC Cup with comfortable winning margins like 10-0 aggregate.'
I:'In my heart, I do want Old Lions win every available trophy including World Cup.'
Su Ying:'In your dream.Take back your Death Note.I'm going to take my bath.'
I:'I've already prepared your hot bath.'
Su Ying:'Thank you,Darling.'

i think chelsea will slip, definitly. their centre-backs is their major problem. john terry the main center-back and captain, is injured for a while now.
the relationship between mourinho and roman, isn't that good and proves it's another problem. it wouldn't be nice if the relationship is on the rocks.
peter cech, lacking in match fitness will have stars around his head for a while, and he'll regain his form. if he can't regain his form in time, it'll be a great problem for chelsea. making their defense worse after losing their center-backs.
gap between chelsea and liverpool and arsenal is 5 and 6 respectively. it wouldn't take much to close the gap. if chelsea can't get back in time, they surely are going down.
i think liverpool will finish 2nd, followed by chelsea, then arsenal. liverpool with lesser games to play this season as they are out of carling and fa cup already. that will be one of the major factors for liverpool overtaking chelsea.
another reason is, the another 2 games against the big four for liverpool is both played at anfield. opponents will be arsenal and man utd.
although arsenal beat liverpool twice at home and thrice this season, liverpool will be hungry, very hungry for revenge.
as for man utd, everyone wants to beat the leader, the desperado will emerge winner.
14 games left in the league, and we shall see..
Come on Chelsea fans...think about it. We CAN beat Arsenal or Spurs in the Final of the Carling Cup. Which means we may not end the season empty-handed!
Chelsea all the way till no Carvalho, Lampard, Makelele, Joe Cole, Robben and Jose Mourinho.
The return of any decent central defender is vital to stop the rot.Contrary to popular belief, MAN U havent been "magnificent" this season and a mere 4 points from 2 games against Arsenal and a home game each against Chelsea and Liverpool illustrates that. The 6 point gap owes to Chelsea's uncharateristic "blowing it" against the likes of Fulham Villa and Reading which Man U and Ronaldo excel against.Hoever once the stakes are raised they slip up.Chelsea have every reason to believe they can close the gap
