Hi all,
Just when I managed to finish preparing six pages worth of the Boxing Day edition for The New Paper last night (featuring our readers, mostly non-winners), I was settling down in front of my laptop to give one last try to Blogger.
And guess what, I actually managed to get in, and complete the transfer to the Google account.
So I don't have to set up a new blog after all...(which means no change in colour for my template perhaps Ladylala?)
In the meantime, we can enjoy a long holiday weekend together here online, while the English clubs keep their restless fans entertained by playing on.
So I'll try to keep you guys occupied till Boxing Day on Tuesday, when The New Paper will be available in the early morning.
We won't announce the New Year's question yet, till we tie up some loose ends with the new sponsor for January.
For now, I'd like you all to answer a few questions.
1. What are your football "live" TV-watching habits on the weekends? (eg, Do you watch all EPL games on a Sat, followed by all Spanish, and the same for Sunday, followed by Spanish on Monday morning?) Or do you catch a few "live" and the rest, via news highlights?
2. What are your Champions League "live" TV-watching habits in the middle of the week? Or do you prefer to sleep, and then find out via The New Paper that morning itself?
3. What do you like to read in The Straits Times and Today's sports pages, and is there any writer you follow in particular?
4. What football websites are your favourites? Why? Any particular writers or columns you follow online?
Just list the numbers in your post and answer accordingly, by clicking on "comments" below my mini-poll here.
Merry X'mas!

1. Camp at the kopitiam beside Enous Mrt to catch the early match den it's off to my gf's house in the west for the second match. Her dad and her are Man U fan whereas her brother and me, Chelsea fans. Sparks do fly sometimes. Might watch the 1am match if I'm still 'alive' after the live firing. Spanish matches, only if the top 3 teams are involved.
2. Definitely a Mac Order before that resulting in my 'bulging' tummy, blog at Postman and is Mr Potato all the way till 6am. Sometimes I do doze off in the middle of the match if it's too boring.
3. I still prefer The New Paper's sports edition. More updated. What's the point of reading something that you read the day before? =)
4. Soccernet mainly. Postman and purplefootball.
hahaha... glad to see the blog is back... and personally i prefer the black background... more manly... hahaha
Regarding the questions.... here goes...
qi) Live viewing habits...
am watching the Villa vs Man U game at home now... depending on "commitments" i will try to catch all the matches, also hopefully that it will be competitive and exciting, if the game start to be bore... i just switch off or start flipping between the two matches. I match rather catch the highlights shows instead....
Q2) Champion League..
Haha.. due to work.. i guess i tend to miss most of the games.. therefore either i catch the "exciting" replay telecast, read match reports from the web / newspapers... or just look at the highlights show....
Q3)ST and TNP...
ST.. haha.. stop reading for a long time already... TNP try to read everyday on the way back from work (in the train or bus) Love reading the infographics, the analysis and views...
Q4)The usual Website is soccernet..and squarefootball.net which i have been reading it everyday for the past 3 years...
love the thoughts and views in there....
1)Well I tend to watch EPL matches of my own pick on Saturday mostly featuring Man Utd.If they are not playing,I will watch the rest randomly to see how the other teams fare.Sometimes I will watch matches in pub where Tiger Beer event are held too cos I own a membership card.haha.A pint with friends watching soccer can be hell lot of fun.
2)Champ league is being shown on weekdays wee hour so I will give it a go and just get the results the next day when I wake up for school. But some of the last 16 matches surely can't be missed such as Pool vs Barca eh.
3)Today's and Straits Times' sports pages especially the football ones seemed lagging by one or two days so by the time they published the news I will have read it online or on TNP.So these pages don't really catch my attention.
4)I will have to say the best sites to me are soccetnet.com for their latest news and fantasy football league, and livescore.com for their efficient update of scores around the world.Thats just what fans need isn't it.If we can't watch, just give us the latest scores and news ASAP.
Its Christmas Eve!Wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and have fun til you drop in those ala Liverpool cross-dress parties!haha.Just got an advanced gift from Scholes,a stunner!hehe
Cheers!
:)
1 - coffeeshop near my hse.. if nt soccernet or livescore or even BBC radio..
2 - slp cos i go no cable but uses the net the first thing i wake up to find out the scores, b4 reading the tnp to get the reports n reactions..
3 - tnp.. tohari.. he is a former coach so he surely knows the game very well.. his reports are nice too..
4 - soccernet, chelseafc.com, livescore.com, wikipedia (to get full details n stats..)
cheers.. :) merry xmas to all..
1. I do try to catch as many “live” games as possible in the comfort of my home. I channel-switch when they show 2 live EPL games simultaneously. It’s really convenient when the broadcaster provides a “Final Score” round-up of the other matches that allows me to catch snippets. If it’s a mouth-watering game, I will try to catch the Spanish action as well, especially if it involves either Barcelona or Real. If not, it’s the usual news highlights or Soccernet.
2. As I usually have school on weekdays, I tend to depend on The New Paper or Soccernet for the results and try to catch the repeat telecast of games or snippets.
3. I enjoy Rob Hughes column in The Straits Times. He gives a pragmatic and realist opinion on sports issues, especially football.
4. Soccernet definitely. Soccernet is comprehensive and provides the latest news and results. There are a lot of interesting commentaries on football issues which I enjoy reading. I think Norman Hubbard is brilliant and I enjoy Phil Ball’s insight on the Spanish La Liga.
I beat him by 1 point.
Guys, I can't believe this. They recalculated and said his points are 86 and mine 81. Boulahrouz played for 77 minutes and was given 0 point. I can't understand why people enjoy seeing me getting screwed. What? It turns the girls on, amuses the guys? Sad but true.
1. My place
2. Sleep.
3. Nothing. No.
4. I am inside Yahoo! Fifa World Cup 2006 chatroom as 'Cool Guy'.
Ernest, reason why I never contact you is I don't mix business with pleasure.
YAY, this topic sounds fun. :)
1) At home. If it's an early match, my brother and father and boyfriend might watch it along with me. Or else, my brother and father just watches the first half and goes off to bed, like yesterday. As for me, I tend to stay up till "Final Score" comes on to see the highlights of the other matches. I usually don't watch the really late matches unless they're Liverpool matches.
2) Again, I don't make it a rule to watch early morning matches unless they're Liverpool matches for which I'll then set the alarm clock to wake me up. Or else, I'll only watch them if I happen to wake up for a toilet break... Or on the rare exceptions when I've no school the following day.
3) I read both ST and TNP. Used to like Edwin Yeo, but I won't tell you who I didn't like! I used to send hate mail to TNP actually.. (Not you though Ernest)
4) Soccernet, + Liverpool sites like Red and White Kop (RAWK)
1.most of the time, i watched weekend "live" EPL games to scout players. for example, when the papers said that Leighton Baines has been performing, i'll catch a wigan game to scout on Baines. Recently, i found out that Arteta of Everton fame is extremely underated. he is actually a pretty good player. Maybe MAN U could sign him after Giggs retires. Of course, i watched all Man U games.
2.Other then watching all Man U champion's League games, i also catch Barcelona's games to see their magical attacking play. I also catch matches between "strong team & strong team" such as Chelsea VS Barcelona.
3. i only support the sports section of TNP.
4. most of the time, i visited manutd.com (because i'm a Man U fan) & espnstar.com (because i duno of any other sites).
Sorry about the grammatical errors in my previous post... and here's wishing everyone a Merry Christmas!
:)
Oh and Ernest, at least the comments page is in the right colour, so I don't care anymore! Well done for getting this up anyway.
Shut down this God damned blog. You ape, that mystiqal woman, Lex Luthor, POLARIS...tune in to Justice League Unlimited to see all of you in animation. Question :)
Try not using the Question MARK in any of your sentence. I dare you. Do it. What no balls is it. What. Wait a minute, I have a football and I earned it. You want to fight is it. You want to fight is it. You want to fight is it. EARN a Letter Of The Week first by not using the Question MARK you naive bunch of jealous jackasses.
Hey, ask your girlfriends what they think of me.
Merry Christmas everyone!! stay merry!
Anyone want to be in the cast of Back to the Future 4. I'm kidding. Empty vessel makes a lot of noise. Damn, that's a HUGE vessell. Hahahahahahahahahaha! :|
1. I watch EPL mostly but Barca and Real in La Liga fascinates me. Live only when Liverpool n Man U is up and the rest taped and watch first thing in the morning the next day before reading TNP or The Straits Times especially if there is work the next day.
2. I try to watch only important Champion League matches involving English teams and Barca and Real.
3. TNP is a must read. I read every writer. I bought a British Football weekly for A$5 and read just only match comments without in-depth views. Maybe TNP should have a weekly section on EPL, La Liga, Serie A for those who missed some parts due to overseas trips?
4. EPL and club websites mostly. I followed Yahoo Fifa World Cup 2006 very closely.
Hey Postman. Quick note to say Merry Christmas to you, your colleagues and all you Gunnerific bloggers. ;)
Y'all be good in the new year ya?
1. If i am home on a Sat or Sun, i tend to catch all matches regardless of who's playing. Other than that, i watch out at pubs or at friend's house. I seldom watch Spanish or matches of other leagues. Instead i rely on the highlights etc.
2. If Man U is playing, i'll definitely watch them in action. Other than tt, the only other teams tt keep me awake would be Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona. The rest i prefer to read about it.
3.The sports articles in the Straits Times tend to be just words. Ditto for Today. While i like the newpaper for its graphics like how the goal was scored etc.I've no special preferences for any sports writers though.
4. Soccernet, football365, goal.com, teamtalk, man utd.com are some of those under my favourites in the explorer window.
Cheers,
kel
Kelvin Kwek. The Superman of The Postman series. Sorry didn't gave my number because I tried and I tried to keep my secret identity but was cruelly exposed by a secondary school councillor. Let's add another section to the new paper - The Postman series. I know a wee bit of Digital Media. No means yes there. Jackpot. Charlie *ka-ching* Jamie *ka-ching* Paula *ka-ching*
Make it three times a week. You want to be rich. Take it and don't forget to ApprEcIAtE.
i don't have cable tv so i can't really catch the actions live. but usually i get my champions league fix from 4 malaysian channels. call it crazy, but i call it lucky. imagine, four different channels showing four different live champions league matches at the same time. and since it's 3am in the morning, i wake up and watch those games in my PJs. if it's a school day, after the games i'm off to the shower. otherwise it's back to bed.
The New Paper's sports section is the best. to me, it's more heartwarming and connects more to the readers than the other papers. we get detailed stuffs from the game, and those writers' columns make my day. in fact, i make it a must to buy a copy everyday.
i do the daily surfing around skysports.com and remain a faithful MU fan by browsing through manutd.com and the hilarious (but rather vulgar) redcafe.net.
What happened to Tommy Tan Tu Jin.
Yeah, right. Yeah, RIGHt. Ignore VJ Utt. You talk to him you become a part of the world I never love. Don't make me go up to you and say, 'I ____ ____ ___ ___'. They all laugh because I BORROWED your limelight forever. I can explain in detail but trust me it's for your own downfall. Laugh at your own peril. I downed Vidic.
And yes it is Q-S Vs Utt. Royal Rumble 2007. (Nobody likes me so ask yourself)

1. I will watch Chelsea games if it’s not too late, or catch other EPL matches with my dad if he’s watching. Then it is Football Extra the next day for all the highlights.
2. If it’s Chelsea is playing a Champions League match with a big or exciting team, then I watch it if there’s no important stuffs at school the next day. If not, it’s sleep for me and updates for me via my dad, TV or The New Paper (I normally read TNP in the night).
3. I don’t read Today & I read The Straits Times’ sports pages to see if there’s anything different about the EPL from The New Paper & on local sports scene.
4. No favourites. Generally, it’s just to check the latest update.
Late Christmas wishes to you all!
Ernest: Can make the comment page appear in another window? Then it would be easier for reference to the original post. heh.
ok i saw today's TNP. It's a candid shot & haha i look horribly cheerful (because i was tickled) & yay!! there's lots of news on Chelsea..
Hi Vette,
You can click at the top "Show original post" to see what I wanted, as you type your answer here on the right.
q-s, thanks for your answers, but the rest of your posts...sorry, don't understand what you are trying to say. Don't worry, the New Year's question will be out this Friday if you are getting restless.
As for Tommy Tan Tu Jin, he's still around I'm sure...
Cheers,

Hi people!
Phew. Non-football related, but I just needed to share my relief over my exam results! The results just came out today... I was afraid I'd fail something, considering the little effort I had put in. Well, in the end they still weren't brilliant, but I wasn't aiming for anything much...
My best grade actually came in a module which I didn't have to study at all... Business Communication. It was all about oral presentation, report and LETTER writing! Haha. Of course the requirements are different, but I'd like to think this Postman thing helped! So thank you (Ernest and everyone else)! :D An 'A' among the Bs and C certainly looks nicer!
On to the Liverpool match now... Chelsea still winning right now... Drogba again! As usual, Chelsea are just too predictable! :D
hi im jenna i love you
Think I jinxed Chelsea. Oops.
Manchester United leading Four points Chelsea will win a jackfruit for all their efforts and grow more jackruits more jackfruits DONT YOU STEAL MY JACKFRUIT or you will be buried underneath your jackfruits :)
Hi everyone, hope you all had a Blessed Christmas! :) New Year's coming.. Time to make new resolutions: e.g. switch to supporting Man U! ")
1. On most Saturdays, I reach home in time to watch the 2nd EPL match, and I usually watch the late-night match thereafter, unless I'm super exhausted. On Sunday, I tend to watch whatever match is on as well. I prefer watching "live" matches, and not just the highlights, 'cause I simply love the game! Don't usually watch, or follow, the Spanish games though.
2. For mid-week games, I usually sleep, then find out the results the next day. I still need to go to school/work! So I can't stay up all night. But I usually get most of the updates from TNP Sports pages.
3. I don't read Today. But I do read The Straits Times sports pages, although they're usually a day behind time. But I love digesting different points of view from different commentaries and analysis. Don't have a preference for any sports writer, though.
4. My main source of info: soccernet.com ") Most up-to-date news, and I especially love the live score updates and gamecasts, especially if I'm not able to watch the matches "live". I can experience them "live" at soccernet.com!
P.S. I'm relieved that Man U are 4 points clear of Chelsea! And Man U have shown that they do have depth in their squad, and are able to rotate their players. They do have options on their bench, and it is great to see Park Ji Sung and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back in action. ") And Cristiano Ronaldo has once again proven his mettle.. He DOES have the potential to be the best player of the season. The fact that his first touch netted Man U a crucial first-goal lead... Wow. ")
2. My name is Muhammad Fakhri and I am 7 years of age.I am a die-hard Arsenal fan.I enjoy watching Arsenal play in the Uefa Champions League as it shows us how the club does while facing against team which plays at a different country and different level. That is what I would watch every match with my brother and not even missing it once. The thing that I dislike about in the Champions League is that it shows the match in the morning. Why can’t they show us at night and play in the afternoon.Another reason I dislike about the Champions League is that it can make the player tired and might injured.Due to that, they might not play in the league games or cup games. The reason I like the Champions League as it let players meeting other players and players might get to travel to country they want to visit. The other reason I like the Champions League is that the scores always come very shocking.
Recently, Lille had win against Ac Milan and Liverpool lost to Galastasaray.
Muhammad Fakhri (7 years old)
Hi Fakhri,
Welcome! Don't forget to look out for the Postman's New Year's Question coming out soon...
Cheers,
The Postman
1. My family and I usually do not watch all the matches; usually some selected EPL games. Since my father’s an Man Utd fan though, this includes the Man Utd matches on TV. I would usually use the Internet to follow the other matches on at the same time. However, when they’re not playing, the TV will usually be turned to any game that’s on at that time. Also, I try to watch the EPL matches of the other “big teams” – namely, Livepool, Arsenal and Chelsea, when possible.
2. If it’s an important game such as the final, then I may stay up to watch it, but usually, I will go to bed and search the Internet the following morning for the results. I’ll fall asleep at lectures if I watch all the games! I read the New Paper for a more comprehensive write-up of the morning’s games.
3. Usually, in the Straits Times and Today, I will read their write-ups about the EPL matches, and see how they compare with those of the New Paper. However, I have observed that the Straits Times and Today’s sports pages are not as detailed as the New Paper’s. I always try to make it a point to read the New Paper every day, because of it’s more extensive coverage and its ability to come up with something interesting every day. I love how the New paper’s pictures and how it tackles its stories. For example, it’s recent drawings on Sheva as a turkey and Drogba as a duck really tickled me. I don’t particularly stick to any writer; I like all of the sports articles.
4. No favourite website, writers or columns. I usually use football websites to check the results of the early morning matches. One such website I like, though would be the BBC sports site, as it’s very informative, for things on the EPL or the Champions League e.g. football results. The New Paper’s interactive Postman website is also good, because it enables football fans to share comments and viewpoints on the latest happenings in soccer.
i predict that Man U will win the title & chelsea will sack Mourinhno for not winning the Champion's League. ok, those are highly unlikely
hey guys, all of a sudden, a question jus pop up in my head & i would like to ask all of you... there has been so many great goals scored halfway through this season's EPL, which of these do u all think is the BEST goal?
personally, i feel that Scholes's effort against Aston Villa was the best simply because the ball was coming from so high up & spinning wildly, it is almost impossible to catch it perfectly, but Scholes managed to do it.
Well mwk.. just to answer your question... obviously I may have missed a few goals, but just from what I can remember, here are 3 goals:
1) Xabi v Newcastle. The one scored from his own half! Ok, some may argue Harper slipped, but how often do you see goals scored from that distance! And at least unlike against Luton Town, this had a goalie to beat (in a way).
2) Drogba v Liverpool. The first of many similar type of goals! When he first did that, everyone was telling me it was a fluke... but he went on to score in similar fashion (the whole turn and volley thing) against Barca and Everton later on.
3) Matty Taylor v Everton. That was such a sweet goal I fell in love with him straight away! :D
1. I watch football live in the weekends. But I don't stay that late. I wait for the results the next day for the other games. I keep changing channels from 23-24 if arsenal is not playing just to see which games have higher scores.
2. This matches come too late so usually check the scores when i wake up next morning.
3. I subscribed both dailies. I travel to work so ST is very helpful in the morning.
I don't follow much of a particular writer on TNP but personally hope they would scrap those Ivan and so and so articles, maybe tone down the racing tips articles, and add more varieties.
4. I don't go to soccernet. But i am an espn guy. I usually rely my readings on TNP.
